Read, write and archive plain text. One app.
Texi is a platform for reading, writing, editing, analyzing, archiving, publishing and selling plain-text (.txt) files. A reader, an editor and an archive, all in a single, elegant app.
One player for every piece of music. One reader for every text.
Imagine a world where each music player could play only one song. Musicians would build a player for every track, and listeners would buy a hundred of them. Nobody would accept that, because a player does the same job for every song. Only the song changes.
App stores look exactly like that for text. Search “Bible” and you will find a long list of similar apps, all doing one job: showing one text. Every other book, scripture and collection has its own crowd of similar apps too, each with its own design and its own quality.
Yet reading is always the same job: open a text, read it comfortably, bookmark it, search it, translate it. So Texi separates the reader from the content. One app does the reading well, and the content arrives as plain text. You can read not only the Bible but every text around the world, in one place, with one design and one architecture.
One app per text
- A new install for almost every book you want to read.
- Hundreds of look-alikes to choose from, and you only learn which one is good after installing it.
- Bookmarks, notes and settings are scattered across many apps.
- Every developer rebuilds the same reader, so quality is uneven.
- Each app serves one small text, so none can afford to be excellent.
One app for all text
- The Bible and every other book, in one place.
- Nothing to choose between: one design and one quality for every text.
- One library: bookmarks, search, translation, fonts and themes work the same on every text.
- Publishers only provide the text. There is no app to build, update or list in a store.
- It grows without new apps: 52,000+ books today, with a goal of one million.
Everything you need around long text.
Import or paste any long text, such as a book, scripture, study notes or an article. Texi splits it into paragraphs and gives you the tools to work with it.
A private library
Keep every text in your own library, organized and colored your way, and read it paragraph by paragraph in a reader or slideshow view.
Five-color bookmarks
Mark paragraphs with one of five colors, then filter your library to find them again in a tap.
Edit and refine
Edit paragraphs, split them, and use find & replace, including batch find & replace across a whole text.
On-device translation
Translate paragraphs and quotes in 50+ languages. Models download to your phone and translation runs on the device.
Scan printed text
Capture printed pages with the camera and turn them into text with OCR. QR and barcode scanning are built in as well.
Quote cards
Turn a favorite passage into a decorated quote card with frames, patterns, backgrounds and textures, then share it.
Handles very large files
Texi puts no limit on opening and working with large files, so substantial collections stay smooth and responsive.
Export & back up
Export to PDF or plain text, and back up your library to Google Drive. Your texts stay yours.
Publish & follow
Share your texts privately or publicly, follow publishers you like, and choose whether to be notified of their new posts.
Plain text that doesn’t look plain.
Compared with rich text and word-processor formats, plain text has always lost on looks: no styling, manual alignment, no visual structure.
Texi solves that with an elegant display technique. Your files stay pure plain text, while the reading experience feels like carefully formatted text, with light and dark themes and a curated set of color themes to choose from.
The format that outlives every app.
Writing is the legacy our ancestors left us and the one we leave to the future. Texi aims to preserve it in a single, standard, enduring format.

A social platform built around the words, not the numbers.
Likes, comments, counters and rankings quietly shape what people write and how readers judge it before they read a line. Texi leaves them out on purpose, so every text gets the same chance to be discovered and writers keep their own voice. Content is text only, so the focus stays on information and ideas.
No Likes
Writers share what they mean, not what earns applause.
No pile-ons or arguments. Every text stands on its own.
No View counters

Browse the catalog from any browser.
The Texi web version is coming soon. It will let anyone browse, search and filter the public catalog with no sign-in, filter by language, publisher, author, price and type, and read in right-to-left scripts such as Arabic, Hebrew and Persian.
Sign in with Google to open your library and manage the publishers you follow, and scan the QR code on any post to open it straight in the Texi app.
Publishers get their own site
A publisher on Texi can have a fast, searchable, mobile-friendly website on their own domain, such as mit.texi.app, without writing code. It supports infinite scroll, full-text search, language filtering, dark and light mode, and publisher sign-in to edit or remove their own posts.
Demo
We encourage archives and archivists to adopt Texi to enhance user interaction with plain-text files. Texi provides direct access to .txt files, without the need for conversion, allowing users to view plain texts in an elegantly designed interface.
To demonstrate Texi’s power and capabilities, we have simulated major archive websites like Project Gutenberg, MIT Classics Archive and Digital Library (Book Market) Ghaemiyeh.
This helps you see how easily you can access archived texts. Just click on the name of a book and scan the QR code with the internal scanner of the Texi app.
22 interface languages, right-to-left included.
Texi is fully mirrored for Arabic, Persian and Urdu, and the in-app help guide is available in every supported language.
